I am now a true believer of
the new Saber-Tooth hook! I used to be a relatively avid fisherman.
Ever since my first baby girl was born in 2003, the time I have to
go fishing has greatly diminished. When I do go, I always bring her
with me. Needless to say...bringing a 2 1/2 year old with me
fishing, has drastically dropped my catch rate. If truth be told,
I've only caught 3 fish since she was born. Saturday morning on
02/18/06, Austin TX was a balmy 34 degrees while a colder front was
moving in. The fishing calendar & barometric pressure status
basically translated into no-way-are-ya-gonna-catch-any-fish-today.
However, I'd just received my first pack of Saber-Tooth hooks and
so was not going to be deterred that easily. So, my daughter Lilly,
my good friend Graham Cohen, and I set off for a pool that we knew
of on Barton Creek west of Austin. Barton Creek is typically dry
during winter as it's mostly a wet-weather creek. On it's upper
reaches, though, there are many places where springs keep long
stretches full of water year round. Using the patented Saber-Tooth
hook feature that holds bait on the hook, we fished in 2 different
pools using live worms for almost 2 hours. I must admit that the
fishing calendar was mostly right. The fish were barely active. The
good news is that I'm fairly certain that any fish that came close
to those hooks got caught! My daughter & I caught about 15
sunfish and a couple small bass in the pool we were fishing in and
my friend caught quote a few larger bass including a 4-pounder. The
best part of using the Saber-Tooth hook is that it's virtually
impossible to loose all of the bait off the hook from bait-stealing
fish. Therefore the fish just keep on hitting the hook until you
catch one. I can't wait to go with my new Saber-Tooth hooks when
the fish are really biting!
